yuletide greenings

I love the natural elements of the Pagan holidays, and Yule is a great one to celebrate! In our house, we celebrate St. Nicolas Day, Yule (the Winter Solstice/the longest night of the year) and Christmas. The past few years I’ve been making homemade Irish Cream to have at our holiday parties and also to give away as gifts.

I usually make like 8 batches of the stuff with my group of girlfriends and we also do an annual cookie swap. It’s so good, and so, so bad for you! Plus, it goes great with cookies! Win-win. The only drawback is that it must remain refrigerated, so keep that in mind if you make a large batch.

Here’s the recipe:

Homemade Irish Cream

  • 1 teaspoon Instant Coffee (I usually just use a little bit of leftover French Press coffee)

  • 1 cup Half & Half

  • 1 cup Whiskey

  • 1 can Sweetened Condensed Milk (14 oz)

  • 2 tablespoon Chocolate Syrup

  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla

Just put everything in the blender, mix it until it’s consistent and then use a funnel to bottle it (in a sterile container!); Refrigerate and shake before serving. It’s good for three months from the date you make it.

where does it hurt?

I can’t help but feel so sick with all that is happening in our world right now. It’s not just Paris. It’s not just war. It is the complete destruction that is happening everywhere.

Our anger, our greed, our selfishness, shortsightedness, and narrow-mindedness is killing us and everything else that is living on this planet.  Our earth, our mother is dying at our own hands.

We cannot be afraid. We cannot turn a blind eye. We cannot turn our backs on our brothers and sisters who need shelter and safety.

I don’t know what to do, but to love and accept my fellow earthlings. Peace.

Stuff I made for my Wedding, Part II

When my rolls of custom wrapping paper came in from Spoonflower, I got to work right away, making a template and cutting the lining for my envelopes.

I used excess bits and pieces, along with some watercolored paper and metallic wash tape to make little flags, which are much like the ones I will use for place settings. I mainly did these for fun, but I will find a use for them…

More soon.
